Catering to a broad range of disabilities, this center for independent living provides transition, peer support, and personal assistance, among other services. All services are free. They have four locations in the US, including one on Rio San Diego Drive, San Diego.
American Stroke Association Support Group

The American Stroke Association has organized a support group for survivors of brain injury and stroke, alongside their caregivers. The San Diego branch holds monthly meetings at the UCSD Medical Center.
Best Day Foundation

This volunteer-based organization focuses on children with severe injuries or disabilities. The group organizes fun outdoor activities for kids aiming for them to build self-esteem and make connections.
Beyond Concussion
This non-profit group offers three separate monthly activities: a peer support meeting for brain injury survivors, an insight-sharing meeting for caregivers, and a workshop where survivors can learn from specialists. Meetings are held online via Zoom.
California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)
This government agency administers the largest independent living and vocational rehabilitation programs in the US. Independent living services include peer support, skill development, assistive technologies, transition services, and housing assistance. Meanwhile, vocational rehabilitation services are available to job seekers with disabilities who need to obtain competitive employment. DOR’s San Diego office is at 7575 Metropolitan Drive.

This federally designated non-profit focuses on the legal rights of persons with disabilities. Their programs include Investigation of Abuse and Neglect, Legal Representation & Rights Protection, and Public Policy Advocacy. Their San Diego office is at 530 B Street.

Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund
Founded in 1909, this non-profit provides financial grants for children in need of health services such as physical therapy, speech therapy, mental health care, vision care, and more. The organization is based in San Marcos, CA and serves all of San Diego County.
San Diego Brain Injury Foundation
As a premier San Diego non-profit organization on TBI, the SDBIF holds monthly meetings near University Avenue for brain injury survivors, loved ones, and caregivers, with speakers of interest and opportunity to socialize. It also runs Howard House, an adult residential facility for brain injury survivors, and maintains a telephone helpline for information and referrals (619- 294-6541).
San Diego State University Speech-Language Clinic

This is a donation-based clinic for adults and children who need diagnostic and intervention services for their speech or language. Services are provided by graduate students at the SDSU School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, supervised by SDSU faculty.
